Teen Dating Violence

abuse

Teen Dating Violence is one of the true silent epidemics of our time.

  • About one in three high school students have been or will be involved in an abusive relationship.
  • In one study, from 30 to 50 percent of female high school students reported already having experienced teen dating violence.
  • Teen dating violence most often happens in the home of one of the partners. (All figures taken from Bureau of Justice Special Report: Intimate Partner Violence, May 2000)

It is the abuser's goal to isolate and control the abused. If you are involved in such a relationship, the violence could escalate, and the relationship will become even more painful.

The only way you can break the cycle is to realize how the relationship is hurting you and seek help from trusted adults, the police, or maybe a counselor.
